St. Philomena is a virgin martyr who is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church. Her exact origins and life are shrouded in mystery, but she is believed to have been a young girl who lived in the 3rd or 4th century in Greece or Rome. She was martyred at a young age, around 13 years old, for her Christian faith.
St. Philomena grew in popularity in the 19th century after her remains were discovered in the Catacombs of Priscilla in Rome. Many miracles have been attributed to her intercession, and she is known as the “wonder-worker.”
